PRUNE NOURRY

In 2012, inspired by the famous soldiers of Xi'an (China), the artist created 8 sculptures, the Terracotta Daughters, from the portrait of 8 little girls, including the one who illustrates the legend here. Prune will then entrust the 8 molds to copyist craftsmen to create 108 unique combinations. This army of girls questions the cultural preference for boys, still rooted in many countries. After a world tour, the army is buried in China in 2015 in an undisclosed location; its excavation will take place in 2030, a date identified as the peak of the gender imbalance. Associating this work with the mythical legend of Mulan seemed obvious to us to embody the symbol of a strong, courageous and independent woman.
